I also connect my Linux box to our Novell 4.11 server. I use the
following in my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file:

# Setup Novell ipx on eth0
ipx_interface add -p eth0 802.2
ipx_configure --auto_interface=on --auto_primary=on

I'm surmising that since your not using ipx_interface to bind IPX to your
network card that ipx_configure tends to "forget" where it's suppose to be?
Just a guess. The Linux IPX-Howto section 7.1 explains it in more detail.

I only use the connection for backing up the Linux box to the Novell drive
so it can be written to the DAT tape. I use the following to mount the
Novell server:

ncpmount -S sbn -U linux -P ########## -V sys /mnt (# replaces actual
password)

This works great for me. Never any problems...

Hopes this helps...
