Subject: [KLUG Members] SOF, Radeon

Err... you guys might wanna note that if you're using a Radeon 8500 64mb (I
believe it also applies to the 128mb and All-In-Wonder versions of the card)
that I personally wouldn't bother. I spend a 4 month period attempting to
get my 8500 running Unreal Tournament, and eventually did it on a GL
implimentation. Bad idea. Too slow; all the work was in vain. ATI refuses to
create their own DRI drivers, and also to give out certain 3D information to
the people who ARE willing. So, at the moment, everything is being done by
reverse engineering. So, it might be another 1-2 years before we see
sufficient drivers to play our games on Linux. I'm personally switching over
to nVidia when I scrape up the money... there are litte neighborhood jobs
around here. Anyhow, you can wait for drivers, you can keep attempting to
find an alternate solution (who knows... it's quite possible I missed
something) or you can buy a new nVidia card and put that Radeon in the
windows box your little brother uses for gaming. :D
