For the background when you under System - Settings Desktop - Background 
then look in the right frame and you will a wallpaper with a dropdown box 
or a you can use the browse box. If you use the browse box you can go to 
any directory like if you had a jpg directory and then choose a picture or 
whatever your heart desires. That is how I did mine I just had an image I 
liked and used it. Talk about options that would make them almost 
limitless.
