Nope it port scans (more or less) to discover whats on the network. No
"monitoring port" involved.
>>P.S. You'll need a box with Sun's Java,
>Is that a separate download, or does it come on Redhat, or ... ?
Separate. But there is a link in one of the documents to just the right
place at sun. The package I got is called j2sdk-1.4.0_01-fcs

>You mean install the tomcat ones first?
yep, like....
rpm -Uvh rrdtool apt apt-devel tomcat4 tomcat4-manual tomcat4-webapps
opennms opennms-webapp
If your list opennms before tomcat it won't work, but will happily
install.
