Nothing significant yet,  but several projects have been started, 
including one by the Open Office people.

>I would also like to get rid of the MS desktop however most education programs run in windows only. (Dos and 16 bit apps). 
>Is there anything out there that i could run these education programs. 

Many of these may run under WINE.  Several KLUG members are in the process 
of testing various education titles under WINE.  If you have a specific 
title you could provide to be tested please post a message on the inschool 
list.
