Hi all,

After a crash on my laptop's harddisk it was clear where the index of my imap mail folders is kept, it is on the client. That's fine
as long as the client keeps on running. Now I have to fall back to another (linux) desktop until linux is installed on the new
harddisk of the laptop.

Problem I have is that I keep my mail nicelly sorted out over several mail folders. Taking a closer look at the mail server proves
that those messages are placed in those folders.

However, starting mail client on this (new) desktop gives me many of those messages back in the inbox too.
Sorting again would give duplicates in servel folders, not moving isn't a option too. And manually removing duplicates??? volunteers
wanted here!

Can somebody point out why many messages are kept in the inbox while a copy is placed in some other folder?

Is there a way to force-out the messages from the inbox when moving them to some folder?

Are there scripts to be run by cron to do this i.e.
force_out_those_left_behind(inbox, sorted_imap_messages_directory)

Can I keep the mail clients data (indexes etc) on the server, (ldap, ..., ?? )

How do other mail systems handle this? We all do have a disk crash from time to time :-( I think...

Bert.
