Correct me if I am wrong, but I think what you are asking about below is the
ability for you to do a Linux boot and browse the Windows Network
Neighborhood to see your families shares (They have to have file sharing
turned on and have used Explorer to share their hard drives for you to see
them). One program I use to browse Windows shares is called LinNeighborhood.

I think Brian was primarily addressing the situation of your doing a Linux
boot then sharing files from your local hard drive with your family via
Samba shares.
