[KLUG Members] Ximian freeze after install...

It seems that part of the 'upgrading Mandrake' process included installation of a new kernel, which isn't working with your hardware for one reason or another.

You'll have to dig up some rescue disks (I generally just use the Debian root/rescue disk combo regardless of what Distro I'm saving), mount your filesystem(s) and try and restore your lilo.conf/kernel images back to a usable state.

Well, that's your 1,000 foot over-view of the process. If you need more details write back.

Subject: [KLUG Members] Ximian freeze after install...

Hello KLUG,
I'm a linux newbie who has been listening to (and learning from) the KLUG
list for about a year. I recently installed Mandrake 8.1 on my TP 600.
Installation went very smooth (even detected my wireless card) and I was able
to download and install Ximian GNOME over the LAN. After upgrading Mandrake
and Ximian GNOME packages, and (playing around for a couple of hours on my new
set-up)I shutdown the laptop and went home. Today, I powered up my laptop it
booted fine and displayed the LILO GUI. Then the screen displayed

Loading linux ...................

And it froze. I tried booting the old_linux and the same thing happened. But
Windows 95 boots fine after choosing Windows from LILO. Can anyone help me
with this problem?
  Sean
