Cool.  There is a really long list of issues like this;  we covered them
in my electronics fabrication class,  it was possibly the most
interesting part.  Basically any "large" exposed metal surface (metal
usually carrying a potent ionic charge) is bound to cause problems given
enough time; and the constant running air conditioning in most computer
centers makes it even worse.

Ever notice that many of the large metal surfaces on IBM equipment are
textured rather than just stamped, and coated with that indestructible
IBM "paint"?  It isn't merely cosmetic.
