[KLUG Members] Have any of you successfully implemented .htaccess/.htpasswd functionality on your or your ISP servers?

Hello Justin.

I have to go double check the permissions. Am pretty sure .htpasswd
is 644 and .htaccess is 755 at this time, but need to confirm. Will
get back to you. Nothing per se is really on the site at this time.
It's under construction. I have been trying to familiarize myself
with how this is "suppose to work", i.e., the implementation of.

If you go to www.patrickdoering.com you will see the construction
display. Then simply append /private to the domain name and the
pop-up prompt should be displayed.

According to the ISP folks (EarthLink), the web host is running on
SunOS and one of them said Apache 2.8 ... now I've only heard or read
about Apache 1.3.x and/or 2.0.x. Perhaps he meant 2.0.8, but I am not
sure at this stage.

I generated the passwords using a password generator.

I do not have telnet access to the ISP and cannot run the htpasswd -c
command on their system. I would feel more confident if I could, but
understand their reluctance to let me have telnet capability.

Regards,

Rob E.

a) What are the permissions on the .htaccess and .htpasswd files.
Owner and group?

b) How did you generate the password for .htpasswd?

Thanks,

Justin Buist
