I run my own mail server at home on my cable-modem, and I've yet to be
denied a single email based on the fact that I'm not a 'known mail
server'. I have correct (i think) DNS records, I'm not an open relay, and
all that. The only time I've EVER been denied mail has been once, but
someone's very very trigger happy SPAM filter - pine says it's sending
mail to 'localhost' in the headers, and from there on out, it goes
normally ... But the filter picked up 'localhost' and stamped it as SPAM,
and I was reported... Nothing ever came of it.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry too much about your mail being served at home
unless you have a lot of downtime. I've got my cable modem, router, and
mail server on a UPS, so hopefully it'll stay up if the power goes out for
a while.

I also serve up web stuff too, and I have nice uptimes. However, watch
your usage..
