I use and like gftp, as the paths on large productions servers just get
way to complicated to type correctly, the first, forth, or fifth time. 
But it also ranks as the absolutely least stable GNOME app on my screen.

What exact message do you get from gftp in the status panel? 
Cut-n-paste please.
