That might work, but so much of the good stuff has been backported to
2.4 vendor kernels anyway you might not notice any difference!
Preemptive kernels/low latency patches - 2.4 preemption isn't safe, like
2.5.x, but low latency is, and delivers much the same effects. RH
includes lowlatency patches in its kernels (you may have to manually set
/proc/kernel/lowlatency (?) to turn this on, if it isn't on by default).
ALSA over OSS - my understanding is that Red Hat ships these already.
O(1) scheduler - backported.
New POSIX Threads for Linux/Next Gen. POSIX Threads - I think both
require large glibc changes and are still 2.5 only, though they are not
actually included.
If someone wants to mail me a copy of a stock RH/SuSE kernel config
file, I'll read 'em over and see what kind of differences exist.
