Greetings all:

I'm in a bit of a quandary. One I don't mind being in I might add....

I have funds to purchase a new server to help non-profits in the area host
Web sites and applications. I've decided to co-locate the server in the
local area and run it remotely. Someone else can worry about power supply,
etc. as my lab power fluctuates from time to time.

Anyhow, here are a few questions for y'all. If you want to send this to me
either on or off-list, that's OK. I will post my final decision so folks
can know what's going on if you like.

1. I've talked to a few companies about co-location. Anyone use someone
they are particularly impressed (or not so impressed with). I'm not asking
for advertisements here. If this question in inappropriate for the list,
then just please ignore it.

2. I've never had to opportunity to purchase a rack server before. Now, I
get the chance. Does anyone have some favorite model or make that's been
good to them? I've been looking at Dell (like the PowerEdge 1650) since
WMU has a nice contract with them (as well as Compaq and Gateway), but I
can go elsewhere without an Educational discount.

3. Since I'll he hosting domains and the like, I've been looking at
software such as Ensim's Web Appliance Pro
(http://www.ensim.com/products/webppliance/index.html). Has any used this
or another software package they like.

Anyhow, thanks for any input you can send my way.

Later...
