Good place to start.  If that's not helpful, poke around /etc.
i.e.  I think Mandrake has a /etc/[Mm]andrake-issue, etc.
Also look for admin programs (yast, etc.) and run them.  

If you get any farther and need some specific info, remember
I have a lot of popular distros, and I can install one and
compare files to yours.  However, I do NOT want to install 
them ALL and do a trial & error comparison!  :-)
