What are the first couple of dmesg lines -

Linux version 2.4.20-8 (bhcompile@porky.devel.redhat.com) (gcc version
3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)) #1 Thu Mar 13 17:54:28 EST 2003

It should contain the FQDN of the host the kernel was compile on.
