Yes, on the spotty part.  I can't get DSL where I live, and I had to pay
extra for my cable provider to run the cable to my house.  Some areas
are covered, some aren't.  Check into it (if you find it important)
before you buy a house in this area.

As far as reliability, I've had cable for 1.5 years now and have found
it to be EXTREMELY reliable, and consistently fast.  I couldn't be
happier.  The hard part was getting hooked up in the first place.
