[KLUG Members] getting started question

hello fellas My name is Richard and I was the guy who brought in the pc with 
windows and 2 versions of linux on different drivers (redhat and mandrake). 
Mandrake was lots of fun to install since a couple of you had stayed till 
around 10pm helping me get it going.

Ok now for the reason I'm writing this I have missed 2 beginners meetings 
since then. Recent one being because of a new arrivial, our little boy. I 
was wondering since I'm dieing to not only have linux installed but what are 
the chances of actually having someone help me/show me on non-beginners 
nights? and which would be best? I'm eager to get it going, doing more than 
just wordprocessing and the basic games it comes with. What is the likely 
chance of getting it to connect to the internet via dialup with my 56k 
winmodem? If slim what 56k/v92 modem would anyone recommend?
