The Nocat authentication system can use a simple flat file password
system, a mysql DB, a radius or LDAP server or a Windows domain login
over Samba to validate a user.
Pick-up the sept/2003 Linux Journal there is a good article that
discusses nocat.

Subject: [KLUG Members] NoCatAuth/NoCatSplash
In the never ending quest to make wireless both secure and usable by
idiots, er.. I mean users, and especially Windows OS users, Mr.
Brindleman (who has never presented on any topic yet, BTW) suggested I
take a look at NoCatAuth/NoCatSplash.
http://nocat.net/
First off, could there be a project with even less or worse
documentation?
Second I can't find anything which references authentication except by
Web Page, which isn't what I thought Mr. Brindleman was describing.
Maybe I'm just missing something.
