Now that Thanksgiving is over and the end of the year is indeed
arriving quickly, our thoughts turn to (among other things) what
we have in store for next year. You have seen some invitations
for speakers to present topics at our meetings; this is a more
general call for YOU to participate in the operation of KLUG
itself. One reason that KLUG has grown so well is that we take
these additional steps to involve as many as we can, and give
more people real opportunities for participation.

Every year, we hold elections to fill the positions of Chair,
Vice-Chair, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary, and this year,
a new position, Member-At-Large, is being added. Any KLUG member
is eligible for these positions, critical to the operation of the
group. At the same time, we look for anyone who wishes to occupy
any of the other significant volunteer positions, so that the new
officers can make appointments from a field of willing and inter-
ested candidates and assistants.

To be a member of KLUG, you must attend at least three meetings
in a period of 12 months, only such members may nominate others,
and vote in this election.

At http://www.kalamazoolinux.org/organize you will find some
additional explanation and links to descriptions of each elected
and major volunteer position, and a link to a nomination form.
We urge you to read and consider who you believe would do well
in each position described.

If you would like to nominate someone (including yourself), you
may use a nomination form (linked from the above page) to sub-
mit your choice, which will then be verified by the Nominations
Committee, and approved by each nominee prior to any public
announcement.

The election will be held at the weekly meeting on January 13,
2004, and elected officers will take office at once, and serve
for a period of 1 year.

Please take the time to read about these positions, consider
who may benefit the group, and consider how you can serve as
well. The road to improving KLUG starts now, and with you.
Good luck to all, and may the best members win!
