[KLUG Members] X crashes

I need some help with this issue.  I would probably find the solution with
a web-search and some reading except that I'm at work, it's my primary box
and I have to get productive ASAP.  Any assistance will be appreciated.

Situation:  X crashes, relevant entries from the log are:

"Could not init font path element unix/:-1, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'"

The problem occurred after using cpio to move from a 20 Gb drive with a
simple partition scheme (/ /home /tmp) to a 45 Gb drive with a more
complex one (/ /usr /var/ /home /tmp).

I am running Mandrake.
