Well, I don't know about Gentoo itself.

But "Gentoo Prime" Daniel Robbins is an uber hacker, and helped many software
projects along.  You'll also find him reguarly on IBM's DeveloperWorks site. 
He's also been published in a number of books and even more articles.

Including "Samba Unleashed," which I contributed to as well.

The guy knows his stuff.  One day I'll check out his distro.
