Hi,
hard drive is not chattering.
when I looked at logs:
I found the following messages:
localhost kernel: out of memory. killed process 11482 (gnome-terminal)
localhost kernel: trying to vfree () non existent vm area
I found this in older log:
warning : xinetd: cant get client address: transport endpoint is not
connected.
Abt virtual console:
I can get into one. I am not using a graphical login, so I get a terminal
console.
I am kind of new and do not have in-depth idea.
thx,
sanjay

Is your hard drive chattering? (seems unlikely with that amount of RAM).
Did
you create any swap space when you installed/upgraded?
Do you see anything in /var/log/messages?
Can you switch to a virtual console? (Ctrl-Alt-F1).
>( Have tomcat 4.1.18 (latest stable version) running in background)
