"Standard" packages (Samba, Apache, etc...) build just fine.  Low level
stuff that does lots of threading or plugs into glibc (NSS, etc...) is
kind of messed.  Fortunately RedHat provides most of these packages
pre-compiled - but if you want/need to move to the very latest....

And binary only packages that worked fine on RH8 die horrific and bloody
deaths (Commercial databases, virii scanners, etc...)
