Excellent suggestion ... I tried it and it looked like it might be a go, but
alas ... got a message which basically stated (paraphrasing here) "Since
there have been no changes to any packages, no updates occurred ... and no
new grub.conf was written. (Something like that). ;>))

So ... before leaving for the Dr's I snooped around and found I had no
grub.conf in /boot/grub directory.  Well, I just issued a "grub-install
/dev/hda" command to see what would happen ... hey, got an empty grub.conf
file, but what the hey!!! Well, on reboot, even the empty grub.conf
disappeared. So, I went back into linux rescue, created grub.conf using vi.
I'm trying to create a grub.conf file that will do the trick ... found
vmlinuz, initrd versions and a few other goodies, i.e, splash.xpm.gz or
something similar. The last grub.conf, on reboot, zinged along AOK, then
caused a kernel panic ... not sure what I have to fix yet, but ... at least
the grub.conf file came into play and tried to do its thing. Oh what
fun!!!!

Hey, if you can, send me a copy of your grub.conf file so I can look at what
Red Hat created for you. I'm in GRUB training ... OTJ style.

My current grub.conf file (which did not work) looks like this:

default=0
timeout=15
splashimage=(hd0,1) /grub/splash.xpm.gz
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-4)
  root=(hd0,0)
  kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18.4 ro
  initrd /initrd-2.4.18-4.img

Something is amiss ... that's for sure ;>))
