[KLUG Members] SCSI question

Hello, gentlemen. Quick question here.

I have an IBM, 7200 RPM SCSI drive here. ACtually, I have two. I have
them connected to an Adaptec 2160 (I think).

First drive is ID 0, second drive is ID 1. Second drive has term power
enabled. The second drive is seeing itself as having ID 8, and is
throwing errors about ASYNC - Start command failed and such. IN the
Adaptec BIOS, it complains about 'No Host Adapter Error' when you try to
format it (I'm assuming the aformentioned error means 'the error is with
the drive, not the card')

The second drive *used* to be in a RAID, and I've since moved it into
another box here in the office for testing and such. I'm wondering if the
drive still thinks it is in a RAID or something and needs to be cleared,
or if the drive is just kaput and I need to call up IBM. The drive has
pretty much been doing nothing, and it's only done about a day's worth of
running since being purchased (I put it in a raid, then delegated it to
'cold spare'.

So I dunno. I think I need to clear it somehow (adaptec folk I've talked
to on the phone re: RAID cards have had me do that kind of thing, but it
was probably clearing the 'cards' memory, which made it forget a drive was
failed, and therefore, turned off the bloody alarm), and I'm loathe to
talk to IBM for years about the drive... Oh, well.
