I've also had an NYT account for years,  and never suspected any of the
myriad porn e-mails or harrasing telemarketers were sourced from them. 

I blame almost all of those on the bastards at my credit card company.

Irregardless of the current turmoil, the NYT is still one of the most
respected and respectable institutions on earth.  And from what I've
heard/read 99% of their employees are proud of that status and will
sweat blood to restore/maintain it.
