Qpopper is *very* simple to set up.

That patch allows Qpopper to read Maildir. Qpopper, on Debian, by
default reads passwords from PAM, thus is very drop-in, though I must
say that I haven't tried the maildir patch. However, the qmail community
in general are anal retentives about their email, so I imagine it is
quite safe.

Cyrus IMAP provides POP3 as well, and IMAP blows POP3 out of the water,
but Cyrus can be a pain to set up. :-(
