One of the mentioned books was from Sun Microsystems, and another was
the Open Office resource kit.

Personally I'm still using my big fat SO5.2 book, and 99.99% of it still
applies.  If you want to save a few $$ just go to a Bargain Books or
some other remainder place and pickup a SO5.2 for a heck of a lot less
than B&N is going to whack you for.
