Please. Don't you think he should wait and experiment with a test box
before he starts messing with LVM? And the partitions he has aren't on
LVM drives, are they?

And he's perfectly free to add a drive and move all of var. But if he's
serious (this time!) about really replacing that box, my solution will
fix his wagon for a few weeks until it's bought and burned in.
