Oh, each client remebers, alright... they try to mountthe shares, and we get
an error box (I still don't like the "OK" button in those things, topic of
another thread) or little ballon (on XP) telling us the that "one or more disk 
shares could not be made" or words to that effect.

This is not to say that logon scripts are a bad idea, perhaps for other 
reasons, and they may, as a side effect, introduce the kind of delay I'm
mulling over. However, the basic notion that the clients don't "remember"
what they are going to share doesn't seem to apply here. It might be nice
to know a little bit more about what you mean by "doesn't really work".

There's a DNS server on the LAN, milliseconds away.
