And if the Windows versions that I've been playing with are any 
indication, Firebird + Thunderbird is much better than Mozilla.  I don't 
know how they managed this, but the pieces separately are much cleaner 
and faster than Mozilla in one package.  Thunderbird is only at version 
0.2 (I've been using it since an early alpha) but I never crash it.  As 
always, your mileage may vary.

Also, I have Fedora CDs now, so I should have a first look for you shortly.
