I have resolved all outstanding problems with my Fedora installations.

The last remaining problem was Mozilla based browsers would abort.
This was solved by removing the "ttfonts-ja" RPM, cleaning up the cache
in it's left over directory, and reinstalling the RPM. (and restarting
the font server, or rebooting)

It appears all of my (somewhat minor but time consuming) problems were
due to the fact I did an upgrade from Redhat 9 instead of a fresh
install.  Now to upgrade my remaining desktop ...  :-)
