I have not used cinelerra but I have used the previous program from
them, broadcast 2000. I was unable to get broadcast 2000 to work
acceptably. I was never really able to get video to load, only
audio. The interface was terrible. The screenshots I have seen of
cinelerra look really bad. I may try it sometime. Currently I will
continue to do editing on my MAC using iMovie. I have to decide if
I want to get a faster Mac and go with Final Cut or move to Main
Actor. I will still need the Mac for special effects currently. I
kinda like my Mac too.... but I want to see more come out for Linux.
I am the type that is willing to pay for software if the software is
good and if they do not try to charge way to much for it. I have
tried the demo of Main Actor on Windows and it is VERY nice. It
depends a little on how much movie editing you are going to do if the
$200 is worth it. Of course you can get an emac for like $1,100.00
with a dvd burner and great software (iMovie, iDVD, iTunes, iPhoto)
and then you are all set. It is a great solution for the home user
that wants to do multimedia stuff. The i series ROCKS!!!! Some of
the best designed software I have seen for what it does. I wish they
would port it to Linux. I am currently using iTunes on Windows and
loving it.
