I did that via regedit on the NT box, and by turning off 
password encryption in smb.conf.

I also suspecte that I had passwords and other tins messed up, so I made
all the passwords for the user being logged in the same, and commented
out a line in smbusers, where pcguest was equated to nobody.

Then, the share worked.

Don't be so sure! :)

Actually the idea is to learn SAMBA, so I wanted to do things in a very 
lax way so I understood the basic ideas behind making shares and how to
config that. Now I will tighten up security in various ways and exercise
the software and learn about all that as I go.
