Jeremy,

I have tried OpenOffice but have found the spreadsheet program to be lacking
in a few areas that area really important for the research work I do.
Microsoft Excel has a very useful function called "solver", which is not
present in the OpenOffice spreadsheet program, that I use frequently. Also,
I have found the chart functions in Microsoft Excel to be much more
extensive than any in the OpenOffice spreadsheet program. On the other
hand, the equation editor in the OpenOffice word processing program is
superior to that in Microsoft Word.

I have other special software that only run in the Microsoft windows
environment. My hope is that installation of Wine on the computer running
LINUX will allow use of this special software as well as office programs.

The configuration of Wine seems a bit daunting, do you have any suggestions
besides making a Windows directory?

Thanks for your help.
