Tony, Adam, et. al.,

Thanks for the responses about RedHat training.

The initial email from PPI indicated they were offering a discounted rate on
RedHat training, on a first come first served basis, trying to fill up a
class. I was up to my ears in alligators and needed some quick feedback as
to the value of this training, from the KLUG experts.

Your posts suggested that I should not rush into this, so I didn't. I got
some details on the course from PPI. I checked out the training section of
the RedHat web site and called them. PPI is not a certified RedHat facility,
cannot use RedHat materials and cannot offer the certification exam at the
end of the class. I think Tony is right on the money in his response. If my
goal was certification, this class would not be worth the money.

However, it is training I am interested in, the certification would be a
secondary benefit. So, for me, the question came down to asking if I thought
that I could get the same or better training for the same or less money than
PPI was asking.

The short answer is yes, but not this year. I can get training from RedHat
for close to the same money, but the only places RedHat offers the training
this year would be in Montreal or Raleigh, too far to travel.

So, I think that I will forego the opportunity to go to Indy for PPI RedHat
training this year and hope that sometime early next year I am able to take
RedHat sponsored training in Chicago.

Thanks for the feedback.

Bob

Based on my conversations with Red Hat, they do their own training in the
various cities. Things may have changed (I last spoke with them in August
about
training), so your best bet is to call Red Hat directly to be sure. I have
found
them to be very helpful.

If it's RHCE you are after, and it's not a Red Hat sanctioned course with
the
ability to take the RHCE exam on the last day, then you might not want to
take it.

I'd be interested in your findings. Good luck!

That was my understanding of RedHat training; that they did it
themselves.

to be one of the most respected.

I think the list as a whole is interested in your finding, there have
been several threads about this in the past.
