I tried again, figuring I'd manually modprobe usb-storage.
Nope, it still doesn't see the USB memory stick.  :-(

reiserfs seems to be in the kernel-unsupported RPM, which I didn't
install.  I'd rather have the mount fail, than have it trash that
partition.

My laptop supports APM, and that applet crapped all over itself.

I just tried PCMCIA.

Inserting a serial PCMCIA modem fails.  It can't find the serial_cs
module.  

The Orinoco wireless card _seems_ to work.  At least no errors in the
log, and the light comes on.  I don't have a WAP here to test it with.

I don't know if the module unloaded, but the script didn't hang.
