That line recreates the /boot partition as a directory on md0.

RAID-1 yes. LVM... yes, apparently. Check the documentation.
Read that GRUB bug report carefully. You may be able to stick with GRUB,
but you'll have to go beyond the simple grub-install frontend.
Also, read `man 8 pvmove` carefully. It may be possible to alter hdb
after all to make room for a /boot partition.
And don't forget to update /etc/fstab!
