While I won't be nearly as verbose, I agree with Rusty that video editing on
Linux...today...is a long way from being functionally useful. The playback
facilities are there, but content creation on Linux is a bit lacking IMO. Kino
looks good, but has a LONG way to go for the serious video editor. 

I use most of the Sony/Sonic Foundry apps (Vegas, Sound Forge, DVD Architect,
and yes, Acid Pro, which rules, btw :) in my studio. These applications are the
only reason, besides QuickBooks, that I can think of for me to keep Windows
around in my studio. That machine is dedicated to the purpose with no extra
software installed. I use Linux for email, web browsing, documents, etc.
