Then your using "files" (/etc/passwd, /etc/group, /etc/hosts, etc...)  
That corresponds to PAM module pam_pwdb (password database) or pam_unix.

No, you can autocreate the INBOX upon authentication, or a template of 
mailboxes (INBOX, INBOX.Sent, INBOX.Trash, and INBOX.SPAM, for instance)
