I've had rather good luck with "rsync", and it supports the SSH protocol
if you don't want to bother setting up a rsync server.

It has nothing to do with switch-over, or whatever else this thread is
about, but rsync is very slick for keeping two directories in sync 
(the two directories can both be local, or local + remote).
