The IP address your assigned is the same subnet as the private side of
the firewall/vpn-server?  If yes, do you have proxy-arp enabled?  If
yes, you've firewall rules let you pass packets? (You need an accept
192.168.x.x to 192.168.x.x both-ways rule).
