There you go, that's more like LVM is intended to be used.

I added an additional drive to a RAID 5 array once. The free space showed up as
if it were a new hard drive to LVM, I defined a volume for the free space, then
added that volume to an existing one and had additional space without an IPL.
So even though the box was RAID 5, it looked like to separate arrays / disks on
the same set of hard drives, and then up at LVM level it merged the two into a
single mount point for the OS it see.

Quite good when you drop 150GB of DASD into a small office that currently had
9GB in their old server and you have no clue what you might like to do down the
road.
