i don't know about version selector...

What I have seen is when viewing said RTF in any "standard" application 
(TextEdit on the Mac, WordPad on windoze), that it sometimes appears 
normal, sometimes it appears to be the original copy of a story. In 
word 2003, sometimes it works just fine, other times there's red text 
and text that is struck out.

My solution was to have the story re-edited on a "normal" application, 
and save over the original b0rked word-saved RTF file.
