Two cents -

I just had the logic board replaced for the second time in my iBook. I
could not get a usable screen (interpreted black screen), but I could
start it up and used ssh, scp, and rsync from my Linux Box to get the
information I wanted off of it before sending it in for work. So I
would try powering it up, even if you can't see what's going on, let it
run long enough to boot, then try to ssh into it. I fyou can, then you
can use scp to get you info off the Mac.
