Debian has numerous packages specific to the VAIO laptops. Often, newer
kernels make these packages unnecessary.

Stable would be a good choice for a laptop, but packages are only
getting older in that distro. For a laptop user, Unstable is problematic
because Flash and Java use the libstdc++-libc6.so library, which has
been obsoleted on Debian Unstable. You either have to hunt old packages
or go without.
