I have some progress to report. :-)
I found that the default specs for the shares were responsible for the
guest access.  Oops.  It had to be something stupid though.

Also, I am now seeing errors when trying to add a machine to the domain.
This is a good thing probably.

Any clues?  Samba server and LDAP server are on the same box. "getent
passwd" works just fine.
