That's because the 2.6 kernels no longer use modules.conf!

2.6 kernels use "/etc/modprobe.conf" instead, with a similar but
slightly different format.  And the command "generate-modprobe.conf"
will convert an old modules.conf to a modprobe.conf - more or less.
Only a little amount of editing is required!  :-)

Anyway, I'm back in business with my modules on 2.6, and my centrino
wireless works great!  The only thing I haven't got working is vmware,
which is not required on my laptop.
