[KLUG Members] dhcp, BIND, and DDNS

I would like to have my SUSE 9.0 server, which runs both DHCPD and BIND,
handle dynamic updating of DNS records for the .local zone that it
handles internally. I've set up appropriate (I think) zone files, and
dhcpd.conf has ddns-updates on, and ddns-update-style interim. But it
doesn't work. Whenever a client machine requests or renews a lease I
get a message in /var/log/messages

"unable to add forward map from <DNS name> to <IP address>: not a zone."

Anybody know what the heck that means?
